I‘m not Who
[ PROJECT STATEMENT ]
This work is a personal and subjective response to my boyfriend’s, Daniel, relationship with his father. Daniel’s father has been faintly present in his life since he left the family, when Daniel was 7, to create a new one. Now 14 years later, Daniel is aspiring to become a Corrections Officer at Riker’s Island just like his father. In the work, I attempt to permanently remove Daniel’s father from any (and all) of the family’s archive images. The permanent removal doesn’t indicate death but an emotional removal from Daniel’s life. In erasing his father, I try to metaphorically remove his influence and overall presence, or what’s left of it, in Daniel’s life.
